Plants, animals, and people living in Coastal North Carolina are influenced by large, shallow bodies of water, called "Sounds." The Sound's daily influence can be a challenge or a gift. The word "sound" also means "in good condition; not damaged, injured, or diseased." Sound Harvest and Garden will try to reflect both those meanings, as I aim for sound vegetables, herbs, chickens, eggs, and ornamentals, all from my home by Core Sound.

How did I overlook these?
While out in the garden harvesting lettuce for todays lunch, I noticed the carrot tops just a few inches away. I don't know why, but I just haven't paid any attention to them this winter. Well, I pulled up these beauties and felt I had won the lottery. You can't really tell here, but they are FAT as well as perfectly beautiful. Based on their size I was afraid that they might be tough or bitter. No need to fear. So tender! So sweet! Now that we have noticed them, I doubt the rest of the two rows last the week.
